The inherent variability and complexities of natural geomaterials require a comprehensive and complementary geotechnical site exploration program based on laboratory testing, geophysics, and in-situ test measurements. In a broad sense, the Geo-MC group at Konkuk University works towards these key-related research topics through integrated testing programs, advanced data analysis, and interpretation methods.

A framework to investigate the effect of sand on strength of cement-admixed clay

[ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering]

The excavated materials (after underground construction) are often marine clay with sand containing high water content. In terms of cement-stabilized soil improvement, however, most of the available literature has primarily focussed on the properties of pure cemented sand or cemented clay. This study aims to propose a framework for quantifying the strength of cemented clay with sand impurities. The effect of sand is found more pronounced at higher water content and lower cement content.
